Women’s Role in the Arab Spring
Arab Spring: pro-democracy protests
Women have emerged as key players in the Arab spring
Women were essential players in the Arab Spring, taking on roles that challenged traditional expectations. From Tunisia to Egypt, Yemen, and beyond, they protested, organized, and even led movements, showing immense courage. Women treated the wounded, provided supplies, and stood up to authoritarian regimes, often risking their lives. Despite their vital contributions, the gains for women's rights remain uncertain. While they were welcomed in the protests, many fear that their voices will be marginalized once again as the new political systems take shape. Their fight for true equality is ongoing.

The Role and Status of Women after the Arab Uprisings by Dr. Haleh Esfandiari
Women played a critical role in the Arab uprisings, standing alongside men in protests across the Middle East and North Africa, particularly in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen. Despite their significant contributions, women were largely excluded from political processes and decision-making afterward, and their rights have regressed in many countries. The rise of extremist groups like ISIS and ongoing regional chaos have worsened conditions for women, especially in conflict zones and refugee camps. However, women continue to advocate for their rights and remain crucial in rebuilding efforts.https://www.iemed.org/publication/the-role-and-status-of-women-after-the-arab-uprisings/?lang=es
